I approach the roda as an opportunity for play. I want to be surprised by the other player. If someone catches me with something that's good and creative, as opposed to something violent and choppy, it makes me happy. I don't mind a good rasteira. I don't let my ego get in the way of enjoying the thing the other player just created.
When someone reacts to getting caught with violence and aggression, I have to wonder what they're even playing for.
That doesn't mean I'm adverse to a hard game. I'll give and take some full contact if that's what's in the cards, but playing tit fot tat to defend one's ego is lame.
