what your arts educators have taught you and the kinds of art you've been exposed to outside of your formalized education. my parents were always bringing me around native american museums, pow wows, indian craft markets and buying art from natives so it makes sense to me that all my doodles that appear unconsciously on pads of paper and pant legs ( Read more... )

It's really funny you mention this. Lately I've been thinking about getting myself caught up into a project to keep me distracted from my usual personal commotion. When I was little and in elementary school, my art teacher told me that I should sign up for a summer art school in the arts district of where I lived. When I did, I got in for free, and the first thing I took up was sculpture with one of the local artists who was mentoring others. Goddamn, I loved it. I spent all summer trying to sculpt this one 3x3' singular geometric shape, and I did. And it kicked ass (at least for a fifth grader).

Last week I remembered that, and I realized, y'know, when I get this damn apartment, I'm gonna try and spend time with some plaster and some tools. I miss it now so much, even if I was so young to try it.

yay! congratulations!

and yeah, if you're free weekends, we should totally coordinate our schedules and get coffee, tour art museums, go to an indie movie at catalina or the loft, make a meal, have a poetry club meeting OR just hang out.

ah! dude i would love it..unfortanately This saturday..i have to hang out with my cousin, its her birthday ..

but we should definately make time to hang out..i would love it!
