mmmm. i loves me some grits. =) with some salt & butter... oh yeah!

they're, i dunno... gritty... much, much smaller than rice, although i guess it does have a vaguely rice-ish flavor.

hmm. interesting that it is this difficult for me to describe grits. i should pay more attention.

by "gritty" do you mean it's like eating sand? that kind of grit?

well, kinda, but not that fine of a grit. think about if you put a handful of dry rice into the blender and chopped it up really finely. the grits are very small and when they are cooked the consistency is a bit like oatmeal, or cream of wheat or maltomeal... so yes, it;s gritty, but not as bad as eating sand. does that make more sense? i asked my roommate how she would describe grits and we've both been laughing at how ridiculously hard it is to describe what is essentially a hot cereal. =)

have you ever had cream of wheat? very similar. instant grits have not tasted fresh/real to me. grits are made of hominy.
