So. Watched the first episode of the new J-drama Hanazakari no Kimitachi e ~Ikemen Paradise~ (aka HanaKimi), based on the manga of the same name.
It stars Oguri Shun (think Hanazawa Rui from the Hana Yori Dango J-drama) as Sano Izumi, Horikita Maki as Ashiya Mizuki, and Ikuta Toma (he played Junpei in episode 1 of HYD 2) as Nakatsu Shuichi.
As
sleepyrenko said
in her post a few days ago, the J-drama is somehow so much better due to the fact that they directly say at the very beginning not to take it too seriously. XD
I surprised myself in discovering that I liked the character Nakatsu the most. Oguri Shun was his usual wonderful self, of course, but I think I liked Nakatsu even more because I wasn't expecting to like him. His character is just so cocky and fun that I couldn't help but like him! ^^
And, like
sleepyrenko, I felt that the guy playing Nanda Minami resembled Matsumoto Jun. Not a lot, but enough to bring the latter to mind.
Horikita Maki made a good Ashiya Mizuki. She was obviously a girl, of course, but at the same time I could see her as a boy. And I loved her hair cut. ^^;; One of the parts that had me laughing hysterically was toward the beginning, when she was standing outside the classroom full of boys, getting ready to go inside for the first time. She was tightening her belt, psyching herself up, trying to act as manly as possible. XD Just too funny.
And this is just a small thing, but I actually gave a little squeal of glee when I saw that the guy who played Makino's dad from HYD was their teacher. ^^
I liked the J-drama so much that I started reading the manga, too, even though I never had any interest to try it before. However, maybe it is just the fact that the J-drama is so funny and fast-paced, but I found the manga itself kind of mediocre in comparison. (
melypunch, don't hurt me. I know the manga is, like, your One-Tru-Luv and all that, but that's the way I feel. Btw, are you watching the J-drama in Japan right now?)
Still, I'll keep reading the manga so I can get an idea of what's going to happen next in the J-drama (though they have changed a number of things already). As for the J-drama, if there are any of you out there who haven't seen it yet - even if you've never read the manga (remember, I hadn't) - please go give it a try!
The opportunity to see a shirtless Oguri Shun should be more than enough incentive. ^_~
