Even back when I was at primary school, this was pretty normal. Kids pick up a lot more of the 'thin is beautiful' ideal that gets pushed at them by films, tv and advertisements than grown ups do, and little girls worry a lot more about their appearance than adults as they assume their popularity and friendships will depend on it.
Even if you're careful with what your kids watch on TV, the rest of the class will already have learned that 'Fatty' and 'Ugly' are some of the most effective insults you can throw at a girl, at least until they start learning naughtier words. When I was six, my friend Emma would gleefully throw away half of her sandwiches "because I'm on a diet" and I had my first brush with eating disorders at the princely age of eight. This was 23 years ago, so I don't think very young girls worrying about their weight is a recent development.
You probably shouldn't worry though, as unfortunately this isn't weird or unusual. Just make sure she eats properly and that no-one is teasing her and she'll be fine.
