I have failed myself as a music ed major, I need a refreasher on that movie.

mr. holland's opus...yeah that's the one with the guy who's a struggling musician who doesn't want to be a teacher but then he has to teach band to get money and he hates it but then his wife gets pregnant so he has to stay being a teacher and then eventually he gets to like it and he almost runs away to NYC with one of his girl students and his kid is deaf, not retarded. which leads him to not respect him or really even talk to him because the deaf kid can't listen to music. but then the deaf kid tells him that he sucks and that he wants to know music so mr. holland comes up with some crazy way for him to hear the music involving colored flashing lights that are reminiscent of a crazy japanese game show. eventually he gets laid off because the guy who's the new principal never appreciated teaching the aesthetics to kids, but it's okay because all his old students come back cause they love him and they play the song that it took him years to write. hence, mr. holland's opus
