Home from Caid's Pentathalon arts competition, and I am exhausted. Happy to report I did far better than I had expected with four First places out of five. Got 2 in apprentice (illumination and orange marmalade) and 2 in Journeyman (Phyllis gown and blackwork partlet). The cool thing was the partlet was entered at apprentice level and bumped to

Thank you again Aliskye. The illumination was an educational experience, and I've been given info on looking at the Gottingen (sp?) Model Book to help me understand that style better.

The partlet was fun, and it was interesting overhearing people comment on it. The funniest one was...
"What's that?"
"It's blackwork embroidery"
"That's embroidered???????? I thought it was printed or something."

Is your family okay?

Thank you for asking. My half-brother (a tall white guy) moved there recently, and both he and his wife are fine. They live in Tokyo, but he checked in via FB about an hour after the quake first hit. As for the rest of my Mom's family, I do not know as they are all over Japan, and I no longer have direct contact with any of them. I am going to see if my brother can locate them once I hunt down their contact info in my Mom's old list. I know one of her family lived on the coast but I was a child when I met them so I don't know where exactly they are.
