We lost the battle.

After his esopha/gastrectomy and follow-up surgery, Tom's torso was so covered with scars that he would boast of being a shark attack victim, or of being clenched in a dragon's maw. Expounding on that, he started calling his cancer "The Dragon", and would lament on how the infection caused by the creature's bite was spreading through his body ( Read more... )

I"m so sorry for your loss
Tom was younger then me, how sad.
You sound like you have a good handle on your feelings and what not.
How long where you and Tom together?
I bet your doggies really really miss him too

not selfish at all
you marry with the hopes of growing old together, I've been married 26 years and can't imagine going thru this. I did lose many family members however, including my mom, we knew she was dying but like you, the pain was so awful when it finally happened I was surprised. I still cry suddenly when things remind me of her. Songs, tv shows, food etc.
You only know how to care for him, that's what you've been doing and now that's gone. You will need to learn to care for yourself now, that is always a hard thing to do for us women. I'm the exact same way.
time will help with the extreme hurting (like the pain in your chest and throat) but memories will always take you unawares to stab anew at your heart. Still, it's good to remember

How heartbreaking a story, yet how inspiring a man. He was a fighter, that much was clear, and I thank you for allowing us a chance to get to know this man, though most of us would never have the opportunity to meet him. My thoughts are with you and your daughter and the BTs, and hope that each day brings with it a small measure of peace in knowing he is finally having pain-free days again...

My guys do make it easier. If they weren't with me, every time I walked into the house it would be so empty and lonely. Rascal and Obi are always happy and upbeat, and I can't help but smile with them. They are keeping love alive inside me, and that they need feeding and letting out keeps me from curling into a ball in bed and staying there.

Thank you all, for your condolences and prayers.
