how great to hear that you are okay. as for the 'bushes,' i continue to be dumbfounded by their expressions, ineptness and 'smug' remarks.
way back when, when gb is the head of cia, i gained and understanding of the mentality of 'their' family values.
i have a theory about momma bush...but i'll save that for now, except to say that i believe she rules the roost over all the 'men' (i use the term loosely) in her life! ciao!

I, also cannot believe that anyone human, after seeing the situation, would react to people who have lost everything in that manner! The whole of New Orleans was not "underprivileged", they became that way when their homes were submerged and their jobs were either submerged or did wholescale layoffs.

I suppose that the concept of Karma is foreign to Mrs. Bush, but my desire is that she and her family experience it posthaste.

Did you lose power today? We were out for about 14 hours (we're on city electric) and the cable just came on for us a short while ago.

What, does Barb own the Lone Star State? Somebody break it to her that the Yellow Rose of Texas was a black woman.

Apparently all our smudging, candles and Mani's weather mojo are doing overtime, a lot of branches and leaves down, a couple of trees, but the house is intact and so are we. Whee!

I'm really glad your downstate kin are doing all right; mine are over in St. Tammany and they luckily came out okay, too. I've been worrying for all the folks who have been blue roofing in the area with Rita coming in.

Yes, we lost power about 3am and it came on at exactly 6pm, so only 15 hours, we are also on City Electric. It was a very comfortable hurricane for us, the apartment stayed quite cool, though the power was out, and we did not lose anything in the refrigerator/freezer! We did a gleeful dance when the electricity came back on, at the same time I thought about how soft and accustomed to the creature comforts we had become.(I used to do alot of camping and fishing with my dad for days at a time out in the swamps or woods).

Barb truly made me irked with such thoughtless telling statements.

So glad ya'll had no major trouble through the storm! Do you grow your own sage? We did a great deal of candle burning ourselves! I was so relieved that Rita did not bare down upon us harder, I am just not ready to evacuate again!

I hope that the roofing held, I haven't spoken with my father down in Bush yet, but will be trying throughout this morning, hopefully they will be out of the rain and able to get a cell call.

Does your father live in the Bush above Covington? That is where my dad and stepmother live. Small world if they do!

I used to live there, on Eddie Penton Rd, in a fishing camp, and had bonfires in the fall for the CUUPS groups in the area several years. Boy, I miss that.

I use white sage, and haven't tried growing it, though it might grow well here; as a person with no relativity for dried plant weight, I ordered a pound of it a few years ago and I'm finally down down to my last ziploc. ;-p

Wow, yes, my dad and stepmother live on Dave's Rd. in Bush off of 1083. They had alot of trees down and roof damage, but have gone back to run his business.

It seems we live parallel lives, I taught a few courses at the CUUPS group in New Orleans for a bit (it became too much every week for me though, I think that our website might still have my basic incense making/wildcrafting course and also theory of color magick. http://members.tripod.com/pansland/ Wooo woo we are seperated sisters!

I did actually have some white sage seeds but did not try growing it in new orleans though I grew a plethora of other herbs. Monterrey Bay Spice Company had good prices on what I did not personally grow.

I think she's been slightly misquoted in some quarters of the press, what she really said was...

Almost everyone I've talked to says, 'We're going to move to Houston.' What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality.

And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this, this is working very well for them.

Which I think was perhaps a really REALLY stupid and insensitive way of saying Houston is potentially a nicer place to live than the slums of New Orleans. I don't know, the hell of the Astrodome aside, perhaps she's right.
Or perhaps I'm just trying too hard to find the good in her.

Anyway, very glad you're safe and well.

The entire thing is, the whole of New Orleans is not a slums. There were over 200,000 people there, most of whom were rescued from the rooftops of their flooded homes several days after the storm only to be stuck in the superdome which had been overtaken by the parish prisoners who were released, no water, no food. Then they were forced upon the highway in long queues 98* weather, where they waited for days to board buses, getting one or two bottles of water if they were lucky ( ... )

New Orleans was (and will be again) a much better place to live (or visit) than Houston.

Yeah, that Babs, she's a sweetheart, ain't she?

Muddy sock. That's funny. I'm glad you could find a little humor in the situation.

No, they have no shame. And SHE'S exactly why W. is the asshole that he is. Imagine having that bitch for a mother!

She clearly thinks the victims are getting a pretty damned good free ride--probably even sees Katrina as some kind of boon for them. They can cash in on all the goverment goodies we constantly give the poor!

I'm glad you three are safe and in one piece. Tomorrow SHOULD bring you some good mail. :-)

I guess it was just the last thing I needed to read, I knew they felt entitled, I just did not realize the disdain she harbored for people less priveledged.

We have started the wheels in motion to look at homes in Hot Springs, I certainly do hope that we end up enjoying the area, the weather that flucuates from 45*-85 does sound perfect.

Huzzah for good mail, I will be on the phone tomorrow trying to set up appointments with the SBA (disaster LOAN), the CAS (Appraisers for the Mortgage Company) and speak with a real live person at FEMA!

I remember when Bush Sr. was President and he was in a grocery store for some sort of campaign visit he asked what those things were that seemed to read the price of things just by waving over them.

THE MAN HAD NOT BEEN IN A GROCERY STORE IN DECADES--IF EVER!! that's how out of touch with reality he is.

I also thought of the barcode-scanner incident when I read Babs's remarks. That really is how spoiled, insular and divorced from ordinary life the Bush clan is. That's why they are the way they are. Scary in'nt?
