This is so honest, real, and moving. Would you allow me to cross post it at the churchoftheleft"?

i'll bet. we've had a house burn down, and it must have
been a similar feeling, when you saw your place. i came home to
find almost everything burnt to a crisp and the dog and cat.

I still can't believe it, even after seeing hundreds of photographs and reading dozens of accounts like this: We will always remember the way it was, not perfect, but paradise nonetheless. It's as though my childhood is gone, those places ruined forever, a toxic waste dump.

Thanks for sharing your impressions, and I wish for you that something better than what was comes out of this nightmare.

Well chere, life is getting back on track a bit. I don't believe that New Orleans will ever be even close to the odd place it was and I am certainly not up for another visit anytime soon.
Hugs you tightly wishing you and yours a safe easy transition to your new lives.

Thank you for this. As I told carocrow, I too grew up in Gentilly (my dad went to NOBTS) before moving across the river. It breaks my heart to hear how badly NOLA is hurting, and I wish I could do more to help my beloved hometown. I only know that soon, though not nearly soon enough, the nightmare will begin to abate. My prayers and good thoughts are with you.

Thank you so much. There have been so many wonderful new loving people I have met, in the most unexpected places since Katrina entered our lives. Often we can not see the reason for things but things will eventually work out for the best (yes I really do love Candide, lol). May the love you give so freely visit you and lovingly stay forever, nice to meet you, friend.
