I've been doing the same job for 3 years. It's an odd little job that no one else in Australia does, and no one really knows anything about it. I have known for some time that it is underpaid and should be the next rank higher, but as I like the job, I didn't really kick up a stink about it. However, I've been informed by my new boss that she's ( Read more... )

That's also an idea. Right now I'm irritated enough and petty enough to say "see ya", because I know that I can't be replaced without a lot of difficulty and panic. But yes, "when life hands you a lemon"...

I definitely agree with the idea of applying for the job yourself, and I'd quote your boss in the application stating that since 50% of your job is "too complicated" for your new supervisor to understand then you are in fact the only person qualified to be the new supervisor.

I'd also let them know that it is a case of giving you the higher position or hiring TWO new people, as there is no way you'd stay with an organisation that treats their employees like this.

So the function is too complex for your 'boss' to do, so you can keep doing it? Fuck that shit! Definately time to start looking for something where they'll pay you relative to the amount and complexity of the work you do. And appreciate you for it as well!

It couldn't be that they're expecting you to apply for the higher position, could it?

Apply for the higher position and ask for an extra 10K (on top of the positional increase) to continue doing your current duties at the same time. If you don't get it - go somewhere else.
