Hmm... Well personally I think Kinky People are most characterized by their ability to detach their hierarchical interactions from their core identity. i.e. "I'm a sub, but that doesn't mean I'm submissive to ALL men/women ALL the time!" I mean, that's what you describe in the communication phase of the scene- you're expressly acting as equals in setting up the context of the encounter, then going off and getting into the role, and then detaching yourself from the role when it's over. The people I know who have reacted strongly against BDSM in any way shape and form are those people whom I know never separate themselves, and think "Well if you do this, this makes you THAT and ONLY THAT kind of person!"

I think there is some particular quality of character/personality trait that allows people to do this stuff, but I'm not quite sure how to define it any further than what I said right now. Any thoughts?
