Right, so...this list was actually made in semi-joking response to a similar list made up back in the stone age when folks were still doing those, "Ten Unpopular Opinions" memes. I never posted it because by the time I wrote it up, the list was kinda old and the joke really would have just been kinda lame. But, I figure it can stand on its own ( Read more... )

That was the thing, Umbridge only every tried anything as long as she had the government to back her. But Bellatrix...she totured the Longbottoms after Voldemort had fallen. She never denounced him, even when he wasn't there to save her. Maybe it was for him, but she's far less averse to simply taking things into her own hands than Umbridge is.

I found myself saying "Amen" to all of these, particularly Cho, Lavendar and Narcissa. JKR actually gives us some great female characters, they just aren't the ones we're supposed to like.

Secretly, I do like a lot of the ones we're supposed to like but I also (duh) love a lot of the ones we're not supposed to. I feel like you get shafted a lot in HP if you're not the stereotypical 'strong female', although JKR has given me enough stuff to make this list, so maybe that's saying something. Dunno. But I'm glad you liked it. :)

I hate the idea that just because you like boys/actively try and attract them/hang with your girlfriends you're some sort of idiot. If you look at the thing Lavender actually does in book 6 and the way JKR tries to bring them across, you see two very different things, and I sorta wonder how it's going to translate on film. I love all the girls I put up here, as well as most of the ones on the other list.

I swear there's more to Skeeter than meets the eye. I get the feeling Hermione may have made a big mistake in screwing her over like that.

And yeah. It's pretty miraculous that someone in Merope's situation could even believe she was worthy of Tom or even of escaping. I think that a lot of abused children unfortunately actually do eventually start to internalize the things their abuser tells them, so kudos to her for overcoming that.
