i JUST had this conversation with my friend because i was making her listen to britney spears and n'sync, and she was all "oh my god, this music sucks."
i listen to bands that can be put as "serious musicians" or whatever, but i love listening to pop music because it is fun and it isn't so serious.
I agree with you. One day I was like "This is stupid. I'm gonna listen to what makes me happy." Now I have DDR SuperNova songs on my playlist, along with Bright Eyes. I like the variety, and listening to only one genre is so BORING.
The 'i hate pop' is almost as annoying as 'i hate all country' shit. First thing I say when people are like 'i hate country' is "Oh, so you hate Johnny Cash?" and then they get all on the defensive. Um, Johnny Cash is country. But I guess he's cool now, because he has a movie and stuff. Hahaha. Whatever.
You're totally right, I completely forgot about country. People treat the genre unfairly too. Everyone seems to think it's all hillbilly music, but it really isn't!
Yeah, Johnny's kind of trendy now cause he's so ~deep~ and insightful.
I agree with this whole post, it's really dumb that people are judged by their music. At my school, if you don't listen to rap/hip-hop, then you're categorized as un-cool. And if you listen to the emo/rock/punk music that I listen to, you're categorized as scary. It's like WTF?
I think the rap genre is dying in regards to trendyness (by that I mean within the next 2-3 years). I don't really know where it's going, but it seems sort of like the 80's where everything's just a bunch of weird/interesting stuff mixed together. It's sort of that Timbaland sound because I think Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado's new stuff is a good example of where most music is probably gonna go in the next few years...

No one said humans have to constantly burden themselves with knowledge and philosophy. Not every song has to be written with deep meaning and purpose.
