Steampunking a leather coat. Any ideas?

If you're OK with making more drastic alterations to it, you might want to consider cutting it shorter in the front and then curving the hemline down toward the back, so it's more like a tail coat. And maybe tailoring it in a bit so it's more form-fitting - this coat looks like it's designed to fit fairly loosely, but Victorian clothing tended to follow the lines of the wearer's body more precisely (since it was usually tailored for the individual, rather than mass-produced).

@misslynx. I've been toying with the idea to make the front corners buttonable, like in this picture:

Form-fitting it would probably be quite difficult due to the design. I will however add a belt or some straps to the back to tighten it a bit.
