I finally made a decision concerning the next 4 years of my life at least... about which lab I'll join and do my thesis work in. It was rough-going there for a little bit because I was really torn between 2 really good labs. But I emailed some grad students and had chats with some of them, and they gave me the lowdown on each of the mentors. I ( Read more... )

Yeah, I'm actually more scared about getting my PhD than MD. The first 2 years of MD are hectic, but after that you do your internship - which seems, though time consuming, more appealing than a five year commitment. I think the lifestyle post PhD would be more gratifying, though. Teaching college would be kinda cool. I wanna give Dr. Dew/Workman a run for their monies... Actually, that's a bold face lie. I'd probably be too nice.

don't be scared about getting your phd... just make sure you go to a grad school where they take care of you... where they have programs that will help you succeed rather than force you to compete with other students. i think i've heard of places that are like that, and that's just not a good environment... it makes you more prone to stress methinks. being able to get a phd is more about making smart choices, choosing a school that has good funding, good research, good mentors, and then choosing a mentor that you'll get along with and who will help you succeed and will want to see you succeed. but you have a lot of time before you even start thinking about that stuff. =)
