So the last two nights Estrella has slept at the foot of my make-shift bed. She has her trust issues and she has her "Rawr rawr rawr, I bite j00" issues, too. I mean, come on, you would too if you were basically a cage bunny for a year without much interaction ( Read more... )

I think being picked up, or even being grasped before being picked up is very different than being petted. If you just touched her, she might of had a lapse in her little rabbit mind. I think she probably just panicked. I can see how being held by a stranger numerous feet off the ground would be scary. She seems like a very friendly bun waiting to come out.
A rabbit my dad had was terrorized by kids and never really got over it before she died. She wouldn't leave her "home," but over time did grow to like pets--it just took time.

I used to go after the feral kittens, too! Usually as soon as you caught them, you could pet them in such a way that their little backs bowed so that they couldn't get away and then pet them lighter and lighter until you were petting them normally and they were arching against your hand and wouldn't run away. Ahh, good times and a youth cat wrangler! :D

Good luck with the bun bun. Hopefully she'll come around!
