Man, I loved the study of contrasts in this chapter. Who'da thunk--respectable nice Jewish boy Wilson being the one jealous of his best friend's matrimonial-sort-of-bliss?
Oof - thank heavens it wasn't a longer wait!suzmumJanuary 24 2012, 11:53:35 UTC
I again hugely enjoyed your chapter. It's absolutely true that everything about Cuddy in this chapter is spot on: the dialogue, the interaction, the capacity to act empathetically whilst not crowding. The last two lines were really wonderful.
I also laughed out loud at the line where House explained to Kirsten what an idiot shew as being. And the one about 'please' being implied. Perfect!
A great last line. I thought your portrayal of Kristen's reaction to her situation was very realistic and Doctor Mills is a worthy adversary for House. Highly enjoyable, as ever. Thanks :)
Cuddy can be just as acerbic as House when she chooses (like in the last line) but unlike House she can also be nurturant and positive if she needs to be (as when she was talking to Kristin and Mills, and even Wilson.)
I hit the fast-forward key on the setting of this fic for more than one reason.
I don't think Cuddy's quite correct in calling them commitment issues. Wilson has managed to stay (essentially) connected to House for more than twenty years after all, and House has never made that easy. No, Wilson, has serious loss issues, I think. He's in fear that the superficial thing he has with Kristen, is going to be sunk either by the curveball life just threw them, or by the lie/ultimatum that Kristen began it with. It's not as strong as the thing House has with Cuddy (which takes the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune more or less in stride) and that puzzles him. Rightly: all the work that's been done to sustain them, all the compromise and sacrificial choice and mutual mercy and deliberate forgiveness, in any long term marriage or committed relationship, is so deep under the surface that to an inexperienced eye like Wilson's (or Kristen's for that matter--Cuddy would never have expected the process of nailing down a future
