When Star Wars was written and filmed (meaning all three original movies), it was the 1970s and women in the majority of films were plot devices and George Lucas continued that with the second trilogy. Stephen Speilberg did the same thing in the Indiana Jones trilogy. So I understand why Leia won't be in your video. I still look forward to seeing the completed vid because I love me some Star Wars (I got to see the first three movies when they originally came out in theatres).

Yeah, true, it's probably unfair to hold it to today's standards. It's a flaw shared by most movies and shows from the time.

Except that I think Padme is probably an even worse example of trying to write a strong female character than Leia, and those movies came out in the early 2000s. What bugs me is how pervasive this is still in movies and shows today. Eh.

But yeah, in spite of its many flaws, I can't help loving Star Wars. Even the new prequel trilogy. Lots of fans who grew up with the original trilogy hate it, but it came out when I was growing up and, yeah. I just love the whole thing. That's awesome you saw the first three when they first came out. I remember they re-released "Return of the Jedi" in theaters when I was nine years old and I saw it -- it was my first Star Wars movie. Which unfortunately meant I experienced the whole thing backwards and never was shocked by the revelation of Vader as Luke's father, but oh well. Haha.

I hope the vid isn't disappointing! ;)

Lucas has always been a rather sexist filmmaker. I still remember at the end of American Graffiti when he did a "where are they now" for all four of the main male characters but didn't bother with any of the three main female characters because it clearly wasn't important to him.
