I sort of agree with you both in a backhanded way. I think your story proves that life is what you make of it; if you believe that your own life is meaningless, it very well may be.
This goes to show you that your life touches others in ways you cannot always know. Molly was touched by several people, and in turn those several people were touched by her, and touched others' lives.
It is interesting that you compare life to sand specks on the beach, but if you remove enough of those sand specks, there is no more beach. We are all important in some way and have a role on this earth. Some of us figure that out sooner than others, and some fulfill their role more completely than others, but we are all necessary.
I lost 2 friends early...one in high school and one just a couple of years out from high school. Neither of their lives were pointless. Even through their deaths, these two young men touched others. The impact they had made on people while they were alive echoed throughout those people, and was filtered through to others. Call it what you will, but our actions do affect others, and in turn those peoples' actions continue to affect even more people. We are all a part of something larger than
As someone is who around death all the time, I really enjoyed this insightful piece. I have been lucky not to lose many of my loved ones, but I too lost of of my residents and best friends while I was at GATECH and he is still with me to this day I feel.
