Amazingly enough, I made it through my first year of graduate school at Rice.  I took a lot of cool classes and some not so cool classes.  My grades came out really well though!  I'm now biking to school everyday almost.  The only time I really drive is to the grocery store or if I need to go somewhere I can't get to by bike, which is pretty rare ( Read more... )

Wow, have you guys seen this?  I think I almost started to cry...  Les Miles is staying.  He is at home. 

Trying to understand why classes are the way they are is a waste of time.  Regardless of how hard you work, grades will not reflect your understanding of the material, especially if you have professors who intentionally fail you and are completely biased.  Realizing that your life is on hold for the next five years is a hard concept to grasp, but ( Read more... )

So orientation was intense.  Three full days of a ton of things to learn.  This is definitely a reality.  Learned a lot about Rice, the department and about Houston.  I really like my apartment.  The office is cool and so are the other grad students. July & August have definitely gone by a lot faster than I thought!  We went to Belgium for three weeks.  Spent two weeks of it at the beach in Koksijde.  My sister and I went to Amsterdam for three days in between there.  Visited Liege, Brussels, Brugge, and Koksijde in Belgium.  Learned a TON of french.  Spent lots of time at the beach, biking, ( Read more... )
