Not the "cat Lady" but the "plant lady"

I have purchased 2 citrus trees.  For the dining room.  I think they are pretty.  Husband thinks I am mad.  I think I have to agree.  It's not possible to have too many plants... I need the oxygen.  I metabolize quickly and have been eating a lot of chocolate chip cookies as of late.  Must. Utilize. Oxygen.

I literally have 30+ pots of plants. Some ( Read more... )

I don't think you're mad... that's cool that you can keep all that stuff alive. I can only manage things that don't need to be watered very much, so I've got an aloe plant, a Christmas cactus, a jade plant, and a pothos plant. I also have a planter of herbs outside, but they're suffering through the winter. I definitely want more plants, but I need to keep these guys alive for longer before I decide I'm capable of managing anything else. =)

I think about the responsibility involved, and then I feel tied down. T_T

Dear God Woman, you are mad.

Plants are fine in moderation, but I don't see it a bad hobby because it's a yearly thing. And I'm sure Dave won't mind when you ask him (nicely) to dig a hole in the backyard for the tree. Good thing you have a dog, because my cat would eat those plants alive.

oh man. I have killed so many of my plants. It's pretty hilarious. I'm especially jealous of your cooking herbs! I've definitely killed both a thyme plant and a basil plant in the last six months.

yea.. my thyme plant grew, then partly died off because of a nasty infestation which spread to the basil, so I cut off bad parts and I am hoping all goes well. The basil I had to get rid of and I started growing some by seeds. They are kind leggy because it's winter and inside, but I will stick them outside hen it gets warm and will sow new seeds then too.

My mom's grapefruit tree ended up getting so tall it didn't fit in the house. Since she lives in North Dakota, which is way too cold for citrus trees, she couldn't plant it outside. She'd put it outside in the summer, but when winter came she'd cut off the top so it would fit. Eventually she capitulated and donated it to library she used to work at, which has a nice high ceiling.

Hmm... well hopefully it won't grow too much in a few years... if I keep trimming it it should be fine, but I will take note for the future house... TALL ceilings, or warm outdoors

I wouldn't count on it staying small in a pot. ;)

My mom had this weird tree/plant thing that was in a large pot. It grew - and grew - and grew - and brushed the ceiling, then kept growing into a giant upside down U.

Hope you've got a tall ceiling!

nope... ceiling is normal height... it says that if you repot every year or couple years and trim the roots (and prune above) all should be good and it should stay dwarf..? (I should put a hat on it and make it a gnome)
