Thanks, Much relieved that its not more serious *phew*, just horribly uncomfortable for her.
I've been trying to keep up with your LJ, but haven't seen an update on the lovely Jara and I'm getting a bit worried. I'm really hoping she is ok and doing better....sending happy blue thoughts her way :-)
Yes the Lort Smith do good work, but I feel terribly guilty taking her there. I have a good job, and lots of cash, and can afford the exhorbitant fees of a regular vet, and feel like I'm taking advantage of something that's there for good reason. They are there for students, and people who've lost their jobs, and bad accidents and wildlife and unusual stuff, like snake bites. But wench got sick out of regular vet hours, and I didn't know how serious it was, (could have been a broken tail with mashed nerves and stuff) and whether it would be ok to leave her until monday......and I couldn't just leave her and see.... But I still feel very guilty.
if it makes you feel any better, Lort Smith will charge you close to your regular vet. Also, most normal vets offer out of hours services, so whilst your local one may not there will be something closer than will - eg, our local, Fitzroy vet offer a 24 hour when needed.
I, too am a big fan of Lort Smith though. They deserve all our support for the good work they do, especially for those abandoned kitties (and puppies) and for those who can't afford it.
I took a sick puss there a couple of years ago, it was 11pm and I had no way of knowing who owned him so just did the right thing and took him to be looked after. Sadly, he died anyway, but the LS wouldn't let me pay for the treatment - they said that if I found the owner (which I did) they would charge him, otherwise they would carry the cost. The owner was happy to pay, picked up his poor kitty for burial and brought me a bunch of red roses for my trouble! It was very sad all the same, but it's great knowing that such a good institution for animal care exists.
Ta, Was much relieved when the vet said he suspected an abscess, or an inflammation/infection of the anal gland and that it wasn't something more serious, like a broken/dislocated tail with mashed nerves etc...... I'm still horribly embarrassed that I missed the bite. I'm rather vigilant as she's so small and likes to try and make friends with other cats twice her size.

Nope, not me.
*whew*.
That said, I hope she recovers quickly. And I like the idea of a vet service for those that can't pay. I wish we had such things here in the US.
Do give her scritchles on her favorite spot from Auntie Ambitious.
