I'm still here...and am puzzled...while I do have cable...I never watch it. I'm pretty much media-free and pay no attention to what goes on in the world-it gets repetitive after awhile, and I figure that one day I will be very surprised by things that have transpired while I was "away ( Read more... )

If you have to watch the news, zonked out on pain-killers is the way to go. Maybe that's what I need to do.

Yes, it's true about the border thing. There's going to be an El Presidente news conference tomorrow night.

I saw that Newt thing too. Yeah, just tell Americans you'll be raping the Constitution and it'll be o-tay. And I loved him trying to take credit for the Clinton economic boom. Right....

And that whole Cheney shooting thing was weird with that apology by the victim. It's like Hideki Matsui of the Yankees apologizing to fans for getting injured. There's something very "battered woman" about it all... And joining Netflix was a wise response.

What's really amazing is that it's been totally swept under the carpet that the 9/11 plot could have been busted if that message from a Minnesota FBI agent didn't get lost in the bureaucratic shuffle. Instead we are told that we need to throw out the Constitution to make us safe.

I saw a commercial for the news conference and thought it looked boring...but that was before I knew about all of the odd details. Maybe he just likes the attention? lol "Don't Fence Me In" just came on...anyways, seriously, did something major happen w/ Mexico? Obviously we haven't enough guardsmen to patrol the border...I suppose that would be a good excuse for a draft? Or maybe recruit and train special border guards? Kind of like they did w/ airport security? Oh, I hope they build a really nice wall, with turets and stuff!
I turned off Newt as soon as he buried himself with the truth...so missed the part about the economic boom.

I dunno about boring- it's fun to see Bush stammer his way blithely across the English language.

Nothing major has happened with Mexico. It's just that with all the talk about illegal immigrants, Bush needs to do something to placate the Far Right. Maybe you could email someone to suggest the turrets, turn it into a theme part- "Mexican World".

And interesting point about the draft. I'm not sure if that's something already being discussed. The thing is that our military is at the breaking point. Recruitment is down and if all goes as planned, we will soon be sending troops into Iran as well. And the plan is to hire and train more border patrols and the guard is to be used as a stopgap measure.

Steve, Have you ever received a fortune that rhymed before??? I got one which said "Keep your goals from the trolls!" Everyone else had normal ones. It doesn't even sound like it belongs in a fortune cookie...
