Megabus

Have any of you ever taken Megabus out of Saint Louis in winter weather? We have a trip planned to Chicago that leaves in the middle of this upcoming snow mess. I was wondering if anyone has ever had a bus cancel or show up late from Megabus. We're scheduled for an overnight bus but are wondering if anyone ever showed up for the morning ride if the

I think there is a 50% chance your Megabus will be late. They are NOTORIOUS for being late. I most recently used them during a beautiful October weekend to Chicago, and they were 30 minutes late on the way there, and an hour and a half late on the way back. Before I started using Megabus, I received multiple comments from friends telling me that they will probably be late, so don't be surprised.

So, don't be surprised if they're late.

Yeah I am considering buying train tickets there because the idea of standing on the side of the road with a baby, toddler, and nun year old in 8 degree weather for a bus that may not even come at 1 am really sounds hellish. If the snow wasn't coming it would be different. I have ridden before with great luck but it was during good weather/safe roads.

Having taken the train from Chicago to St.Louis many times, I would recommend that route over the bus. There's heated and manned stations at each end, and there's lots of room to move around during the trip. There's also some food available, and depending on the train there may be a viewing car.

That's not to say the train will be on time, but if that's not your priority then I'd say the train is the way to go.

The megabus tickets were free (figures!) so we planned our trip around that. I have only heard good things about Amtrak though so it just may be worth it so we actually arrive! Thanks.

The first time I bought a ticket to Megabus to Chicago was about 3 years ago. I stood out in the freezing morning cold with other passengers, waiting for the damn bus. It never came. Someone contacted Megabus after two hours and they told him that the bus had broken down. GREAT.

They refunded my ticket (only $1.50 lol). I ended up taking them twice more and both experiences were wonderful. Friendly driver, polite passengers, ontime arrival. One driver was extra crazy--during rush hour in Chicago, she pulled the entire bus off the road for a super quick drink or bathroom break at a nearby gas station. Made everyone mad lol. When she came back, traffic hadn't moved.

My one advice for you is to NEVER EVER TAKE GREYHOUND.
