Local Bank Recommendations:

After just witnessing the shafting of my employer by their bank, which also happens to be the same place that I use, I am looking for a new one to move my accounts to.
So in short, is there a locally owned bank that offers good customer service, and is not inherently evil?

Everyone and their brother will recommend a credit union. I can't do that cos I don't use a credit union, but I will tell you to stay the hell away from Commerce. I banked with them for 5 or 6 years and they are just a hot mess.

I use First Bank, and I like them veddy veddy much. They have branch locations in every dierbergs (along with stand alone locations), ATMs in every walgreens, and super nice employees. Plus, I dig their web services.

First Bank is EVIL!!! and they are owned by Dierbergs same family. Bank there at your own risk. I like Lindel Bank and the staff there great me by name every time I go in there which is like once a year and they still know me.

Repeating the above poster, everyone and their mom will recommend a credit union, but I actually bank with PNC (which used to be National City) and am very pleased with them. The switchover from National City to PNC was smooth as glass, and I have called them many times and received excellent customer service.

we are very pleased with Vantage Credit Union. VERY pleased. I have had USBANK, BANK OF AMERICA, COMMERCE, & FIRST BANK and they all SUCKED in fees and penalties. There is a bank called 5/3rds bank who i hate simply because the name is so stupid.

When I moved to STL I seen a fifth third bank and thought it was the dumbest name. why would they name it that? was it originally a building on 5th and 3rd or is 1/5 1/3 some topsy krett bank jargon... idk

I use UMB and am very happy with their services all around.
US Bank is pure evil.

Banks which are not evil do not exist. Which one are you leaving? I have been happy with Bank Midwest, now Academy Bank, for several years. Their branches are in Wal-Marts. I've also been happy with First Community Credit Union, which I also use for purposes of hiding money form myself.
Commerce and USBank are, imltho, the worst of the worst.
