Roger had a lot of work ahead of him. This morning, he'd officially claimed the building on Lovegood Lane as the future site of his workshop, and he was meeting with Jack later to discuss his plans for breaking away and starting his own business. He was a bit nervous about that. He didn't want Jack to think him unappreciative or ungrateful, and he really didn't want to be an arse and leave Jack loaded down with projects. So he would explain to Jack that he'd remain on at his place and finish his projects there during the transition period. It would be a hell of a lot of work, but Roger couldn't see another solution. He'd been the one to load himself down with projects these last couple of months.
For right now, though, Roger was relaxing with a book, and trying to clear his mind. Now that he'd claimed the building, he needed to fix it up, as it was considerably damaged. He had a meeting with Vincent Crabbe later this week about a job. He had to start looking into starting paperwork to get discounts from the Muggle suppliers that Hermione had mentioned on Wednesday. And it couldn't hurt to go to the library and bookshop and get some business texts. He just had alot to think about. Not to mention the personal side of things. Things about which he was trying not to think too much.
Ron had come
to see him yesterday afternoon. It had gone as well as could be expected. Ron had asked him about the situation with Hermione, which Roger had sort of anticipated, and that had been fine. He'd also mentioned the situation with Cedric, which Roger had not expected. He generally tried not to think about the fact that Hermione was dating someone else. So far, when he'd been out with Hermione it had been easy just to focus on her, and he was normally too wrapped up in her to really worry about Cedric and the fact that she might end up choosing him. Though the possibility of that happening worried Roger more than he wished it did, it didn't do to dwell upon it or deal in what-ifs. All he could worry about was right now.
Right now, he was happy spending time with Hermione, and right now, he was going to keep trying to make her happy. If, in fact, seeing Cedric made her happier in the end, then that was kind of the point, wasn't it? That she was happy. So he'd deal with it.
Lying back on the couch with a Dickens novel, Roger looked up at the ceiling when he realised he'd been stuck on the first paragraph of chapter three for ten minutes. He knew that he should have gone to put in some work at the shop. At the knock on his back door, he sprang up, happy for the distraction as he walked to the kitchen to open it, smiling to see Hermione on the other side. She looked somewhat preoccupied and a bit worried about something though, and his smile faltered a bit.
"Hey," he said, reaching for her hand to lead her inside. "How are you?"
