Ron was a bit out of sorts, and he was pretty sure it was mostly because of the nightmares he'd had recently. Work was going fine; that really never caused him any problems these days unless they got a really odd printing job, and usually Hermione would help him figure out how to deal with it and that would be that. So he didn't think much on work these days; it had become almost automatic for him. He wasn't bored with it; he still found it reasonably challenging, and printing books made him feel like he was making a real contribution to the new community. So work wasn't an issue, unless he let his attention drift and started wondering if he really wanted to be printing books five or ten years from now. Luckily Ron rarely thought that far ahead; he was a "go with the flow" sort of bloke, and unless something really bothered him, he didn't fight what was going on, he just went with it.
His personal life was going well too, at least while he was awake. He had a beautiful, sexy, supportive girlfriend and his relationship with her just seemed to get better every day. His best friends' lives were also starting to move toward normal, though Ron did wish he saw more of Harry and Hermione. After all the years they'd been together, first at school and then in the war, it was weird to share a house with them but barely see them at home, except in passing. He'd meant it when he
told Harry not to be a stranger, but that had been almost two weeks ago and they'd still not caught up yet. Hermione usually had a date with Roger on Wednesday nights and Sundays. Ron knew, though, that after 8 o'clock on a Friday evening, she would probably be home in her room reading or, more likely, catching up on paperwork from the book business. Maybe she would have some time to just hang out with him.
Ron decided not to mention the nightmares to Hermione, because he knew she would worry and fuss over him. It was only two nightmares, after all; nothing to get hung about. He'd been with Lavender both times, and she'd been wonderful, calming him down and bringing him back to reality. The
second nightmare had been much worse than the first, more vivid and real; after that nightmare it struck him that he'd been at her flat both times. He wondered if something there was upsetting him, but he couldn't figure out what that might be because being there, with her, always made him happy. At this point he really couldn't suss out why he'd had nightmares, he just hoped he didn't have any more.
It was close to 9 p.m. when Ron roused himself from his bedroom, where he'd been staring at the ceiling, and walked down the hall to Hermione's bedroom. He knocked on the door firmly and leaned against the door frame, waiting.
