Ron really needed to talk to his mother. He'd had something on his mind for two months, and he needed her advice. Well, not her advice so much as her insights, and maybe her blessing. When he and Lavender went to lunch at the Burrow yesterday, his mum had agreed to have lunch with him at the Five Alarm. He was glad she was available today.

As he walked through the door of the pub, his mother greeted him warmly. Ron went over and hugged her tightly. "'Lo, Mum, I'm glad you've got some time for me today."

"Hello, my darling." Glad to receive such a display of affection, Molly embraced her youngest son tightly. Releasing him, she put her hands on his shoulders so that she could pull him down to kiss him on the cheek. "I've always got time for you, love, you know that."

She looked at him curiously, wondering what had brought this all on. "Can I get you a drink? We should go get a table and sit down."

"Yeah, I could use a firewhisky, actually," Ron said a bit sheepishly. He was almost 26 but still worried about Mum disapproving of him having a drink now and then. Today he felt like he needed a strong one. "And some fish and chips, if that's okay."

He nodded, and his mother found them a table toward the back, away from prying eyes and ears. "So..." he might as well get into it. "I, um, I'm planning to propose to Lavender."

"That's no problem." Molly beamed, glad to see Ron's healthy appetite but her curiosity aroused further by his request for firewhiskey at lunchtime. It was best not to question it until they'd had a chance to speak - Molly's patience had been tested plenty of times over the years and this was no exception.

She stepped back to the bar for a moment, placing the order with Rosie before ushering Ron to a table at the back of the pub. This seemed like the right time to sit away from other people. As Ron revealed what was on his mind, she gasped sharply. Oh, and here she was thinking that all this worry was over something bad. She grasped Ron's hands over the table. "That's wonderful, sweetheart!"
