Fox rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, relieved that Garrus wasn't bleeding or something after nailing his face, "You know, I used to think I didn't believe in luck. I thought 'maybe everything happens for a good reason, and I just don't know what it is'. Being aboard this ship for a while changed my whole perspective on it. There is no reason for half of this shit to happen. Sharks biting my tail off, being sent to the pound, my friend puking in my mouth... I've gotta be setting some kinda bad luck record over here. Y'know, my dad used to say 'being miserable builds character'. I always thought he was joking."

"Eh, there's some truth to that," Garrus conceded as he leaned against a conveniently placed box, "You go through the bad times and you learn from them. It's one of the best ways to learn."

He raised a finger, not towards anything in particular, but more as a gesture to help make his point.

"But, and I learned this the hard way, you also can't let them change who you are. Not completely. I dunno if getting a mouthful of human puke is gonna make you go on some kind of homicidal rampage, but I figure I should mention that. Just in case."

Fox chuckled, crossing his legs again. "Ridiculous situations like that aside, I like to think I've come out of bad situations for the better. You live and learn. It's not always as easy as that, but what it comes down to is how strong a person you are.

"Well, that's what I think, anyway."

Fox was maybe about to say something heartfelt and encouraging or something, but Garrus just had to go and ruin the moment. They had a good thing going, and then, it was right back to puke. Fine, if he wanted to play that game, Fox could too.

Fox just glared at the turian for a moment, before asking "So, how was making out with the commander? Was it everything you hoped and dreamed?"
