Huzzah! I now have a full-fledged BEOS machine up and running. It's just a P-III 600 with 256 MB of ram and onboard video, but Beos runs perfectly, looks beautiful, and works with every bit of hardware on the machine. Bah, but for a full-featured desktop machine linux is *soooo flaky unless you put a lot of work into making it run well. Don't get me wrong, I think linux works well for a command-line server machine, but I wouldn't want to use it for a desktop.

it rarely occurs to me to use linux as a desktop, I only ever use it as a server
