Third Weevil - [written]

I take it this is not one of your regular Luceti anomalies.

Just how much closer will this....new moon [Haha. Made a funny.] fall. It's already so near....

[Yeah all those Doomsday predictions he heard growing up? Suddenly much more at the forefront of his mind.]

One for the storybooks this will be.

[If...yanno...they manage to live through it

the moon is licking the glass, this is unfortunate, end of the world, roll the next clip stephen, what hands, welp, moons don't have hands, ain't no thang, time to go home, mild inconvenience

[...And, of course, he is not far from Jack. His eyes go up from the Journal, which he has been watching, when Jack's writing appears.]

It is rather unsettling.

[Even moreso, he is inclined to think, for a man of science rather than superstition.]

[Jack is much less...calm than his writing would give away. The same slanted writing as ever but he is the picture of hidden nerves. Of course, the only person who could possibly tell this is Stephen, so for that Jack is both parts glad and not.

He finds himself rather jittery, almost like he was restless save for the edge to his mood. Yes, Jack Aubrey - for once - is quite terrified.

But damn him if anyone finds this out. Especially Stephen.

So he smiles in a peculiar way and prattles on.]

Ha. Indeed.

Suppose it wouldn't make it any less so if the cursed thing were cheerful. But then what would be about falling...

[Dear God, he's not making any sense at all. But ...then again this is Jack.]

I cannot make sense of it. The face... I should not expect anything of that. [If this place could give a man wings, it could give a moon a face.] But the falling. I can see no cause for such a thing.

[He is on his feet and behind Aubrey's chair a few moments later, undoing the cord that ties the rough ponytail.

His fingers work through the hair carefully, smoothing it out, collecting bits that had scattered.]

It do -[He begins to talk but - oh suddenly his hair is loose and the heavy pull of his hair swiped back is no more. The tension in his scalp vanishes and with it a little of Jack's unease. For the moment.

His head dips forward a little, then back to look at Stephen as he speaks.]

Would it relieve you if you could put reason to it?

[Jack sounds curious.]

Mm.

I'm rather amazed at the lack of panic thus far. Probably jinxed us all by sayi - writing it just now. The masks seem a comfort strangely.

Perhaps they try to distract us from the real danger here.

Might be sort of interesting, Aubrey. Have you not ever wished to visit the moon?

Perhaps to see it closer but this is a little too much for comfort.

Muldinsky seems to think the moon has a rather gigantic schnoz. What say you to that observation, Aubrey?

Sure. If your storybooks are filled with creepy terror-inducing things. [ a hard dash. ] Though, if you think about it, storybooks generally are. Cannibal witches and evil queens and cannibal evil witch queens.

You're right there. They generally aren't very happy stories.

[Fanny and Charlotte always seemed to like them though. :\a]

At the very least the majority has a happy ending.
