Weird girl doing weird things

There's a fine line between a run-of-the-mill introvert and something more worryingly hermit-tastic, methinks, and I often have to wonder which side of that line I've set up camp upon. Does anyone else get exhausted after being around too many strangers? And, like, require a significant period of complete silence and isolation to recover from it ( Read more... )

Hee! Social secretary of the Hermits' Club... Now there's a title worth putting on one's resume!

I was seriously impressed with it myself! When I was working on the critters, I only had the top planks in my house so it just looked like an over-sized cutting board. The final thing is going to be spectacular!

Yes, CONSTANTLY.

Although I never recover with Viking Chests... clearly, I am doing something wrong. Call Thor.

This is a large relief to me!

Heeeeehehe! Viking art fixes many ills, I tell you. They were a surprisingly arts-n-crafts-y gang despite the reputation, it seems.

That look awesome!

I am so like that. Even family gatherings, I start to feel like everything's too loud and too much after a certain amount of time with a group of people - only it's not obvious to me right away, I just know that when the gathering is over, I feel worn out and waaaaay overstimulated. Even if it's people I like and feel comfortable with! It's like I'm receiving too much sensory information maybe.

Oh, indeed! There's a much longer stamina-clock on time around friends and family versus strangers or acquaintances, but it's definitely still there ticking away.

That's um kind of the definition of introversion.

I don't know if you've seen that "How to care for an introvert" chart dealie that's floating around the interwebz lately, but given the majority's reaction to it (largely along the lines of "omgz, that's me!") I'm thinking that there's definitely a spectrum of introversion. Like, from those who get a little worn down after a down out with people, to those who will go to almost comedic lengths to avoid situations where they might be (dun-dun-dun!) unable to flee if/when required.

... I am, as usual, just spending way the hell too much time fussing if I'm excessively warped again. :P

to be honest i think wherever you fall on the spectrum of introvert (and given your propensity for LARP and whatnot I'm guessing it's not at the extreme FOREVER A HERMIT end) you qualify as "normal" rather than "excessively warped" because wherever you fall there are going to be a lot of people who can empathise fairly solidly with how you feel about socialising and how you recover from it.

That's part of the beauty of the internet, eh? (Along with the piracy and the porn, I mean, obviously...) No matter how weird you think you are, there are always going to be people with the same quirks as you. Though sometimes the mental 'psyching self up to leave the house' contortions that I require make me worry that I could turn into FOREVER A HERMIT without people prodding me to interact in real time, I will confess.
