Back into track after a long weekend. Everybody's talking about one thing and one thing only: the elections, which are in two days. I didn't vote on 2001, which surprised the blokes I was living with back then. I had no idea who was everyone and what it would change to vote for a party or the other. This year, however, I've actually registered to ( Read more... )

I'm rather out of touch with Muggle politics, myself. My family were discussing it when I visited the other day but I'm afraid I couldn't follow at all.

A few Muggles use pigeons like we do owls, but they're not so efficient as owls.A neighbour of mine when I was little used to keep pigeons and let me feed them.

Don't worry, Hannah, I'm not sure how many muggles actually understand politics, and they still talk and talk about them.

Oh, really? It seems like they'd be terribly messy, heh.

I remember tham as being really adorable, but I suppose that was mostly the delusion of childhood! They were probably horribly smelly really.

Muggles have Green Parties for elections?

Yes, they do. It's the name of the political party. There are other parties, too, like Liberal Democrats, Labourists and Tories.

That's helpful to know, Hopkins, thank you!

Though I suppose it's rather useless now.

Monster Raving Looney are the only bastards you can actually trust, you know. All others...you know.

You are a Monster Raving Loony. I can't believe you're rubbishing your vote like that. It's not as if you ever drive through Milton Keynes anyway.

I still haven't decided how I'm voting.

Where are you living? Muggle or wizarding world?

Primrose Hill.

I restrict my time in the wizarding world to brief forays into the Banshee or the shops on Diagon Alley for interesting purchases. It's just far too mad for me, and also robes aren't very flattering, are they?

Half the people I know are wizards though, so I suppose I'm stuck.

You?

I'm voting Liberal Democrat this time around. My parents have always been Labour, but whenever politics comes up these days my father gets going on how Tony Blair isn't for the common man. And I definitely couldn't vote for them after they've lied about the war and all.

I didn't know people really still kept pigeons. My aunt has budgies, but pigeons? But I guess some people do have pet rats, don't they? So that's sort of the same thing.

Oh, I'm with you on the war. We really don't need any more wars.

Well, when I was in school I thought muggles only kept dogs and cats as pets, but they really have a wide variety of pets. Some even have snakes! But, of course, they're very expensive and need a lot of space, so it's not common at all.

You can say that one again, mate. Sometimes it just seems like it never ends, does it? My cousin is in the army, so it was like right after my parents could stop worrying about me, then he gets sent to Iraq and everyone in the family has to worry again. It's shit, really. At least he's been okay so far, but you know, what are we doing in bleedin' Iraq of all places, right? Because of some arsehole who's supposed to be in Afghanistan or summat! Explain that one to me!

Uh, not that I'm asking you specifically to explain it.

Oh yeah, Muggles have all kinds of pets. When I was younger, before I went to Hogwarts, my mate Paul had a lizard. That was pretty wicked.

I quite like Liberal Democrats, but then it's the ginger solidarity movement, isn't it? I'd feel weird voting, which is why I don't, and anyway I'm not really a Muggle so should I vote on Muggle things? It's a bit odd, that.

Well, I've been living here in the muggle part of Nottingham for five years, so I thought I should get involved in something like this. You know?

Which is good, as you're all intigrated, but I don't even live in Britain anymore, you know? But I'm going to nick the telly for the results tomorrow, go on a bit of a bender and do the whole night. Better get in a few more sets of ciggies and beer, I think.

Party!

I'm amazed you've tellies there! With the way you were talking about the ickle dragons in your journal, I almost thought of telling you not to let them watch too much telly!

Have fun! If anything, elections are fun because they're so unfrequent.
