IT BEGINS

In response to this post a month or so back

I have begun to explore the world of high-quality ceramic plugs. It has taken me WEEKS of research, practice, and pounds of clay to make the closest to perfect sized/shaped/flared/glazed plugs I can (at this point).

the flares seem a tiny bit rough, but i kind of like the way that looks. it looks like some sort of treasure from a pirate ship or aztec ruins or something. are they double or single flared?

Yeah, but the front flare arent wearable flares (like you cant stretch your ears over them), so i figured that is something i can easily fix. Plus, I like that look, too :P

This pair is sf.

what kind of glaze? what's the MSDS on whatever you're using? food-safe isn't necessarily biocompatible, & i think you're probably getting into a really unsafe business if you start sending out things that aren't safe for typical wear but people end up having problems with them.

ceramics simply aren't safe for longterm internal wear.

i have done a solublity test on them (in a mild vinegar solution) and the glaze showed little to no solublity over a week or so...

i am still sketchy as to if i sell them...
i would have to put MASSIVE warnings on them not to wear them for extended use.

well, that last bit makes me a little happier about it. i'm always wary for people who want to make something new - but at this point in the game, there's a lot of reason to avoid materials that aren't already in use. even silicone has shown more problems with reactions than nearly any other material currently in use.

cool! do you make them on a wheel? i've had a hard time trying to make a consistent wearable area with polymer clay, but i suck at sculpting as it is.
what sort of resin do you use?

I have sensitive ears, so if you ever do them in 8g let me know and I would be happy to test them for you.
