The first 2-3 months will be tough of course, BMT's horrid, but after that it gets more slack, they get more admin time, freedom, nights out etc.
Meanwhile I'm sure it's already stressful/ painful enough for him to have to endure that shit& to be so far away from you, so what you can do is to be really nice about it. Listen to him complain if you guys have the time !
