Cost of living close to nothing in NCstucknowOctober 5 2004, 13:03:19 UTC
I used to live in a 1 bedroom basement apartment on Commonwealth Ave in Boston for 3xs more per month than my spacious 2 bedroom apt w/24-hour access to the fully equiped gym, swimming pool, tennis courts, bike paths, etc in Raleigh NC. It is INSANELY cheap here---I wish you luck---I suppose it is a nice place for a family (you have a child, don't you?). And it is very pretty here---everything is green all over---tons of trees, lakes, etc-----just not the place to be if you like the fast-paced city life or if you're single. ....I also can't believe that you read my super long life report...I'm sorry! Do you mind me asking what you do? Hobbies, work, etc? I have a growing curiosity about you---and your journal isn't very revealing... if you feel up to it---I'd love to know more about you.

i was just in NC last week, my brother moved down there a few years ago and he just got married. i could get a 3bdr house for less then i pay for a 1 bedroom apt in NY!!! ok enough of that we both know its crazy. but anyway my bio isnt very exiting lets see im 26 and yes i do have a little girl she will be 4 months old next week. (nice of you to rem) i work for my father on the computer (doing ebay stuff) so i can stay home with the baby. before i had her i was a hairdresser. me and my boyfriend (babys daddy) dont live together so its not like a can really just pick up and move out of state, well i can but you know. well im done blabbing now. i told you it was boring. :)

....boring...NO! Working on the net is great because it enables you to be virtually anywhere... and it's definitely good that you can be w/your baby---that's important. A hairdresser in NY----you know, every time I see a hairdresser overseas--after they find out that I "come from America" they always tell me how they dream of being a hairdresser in NYC. I'm not kidding--I think about 3 or 4 times I've heard that....in China, Israel, Turkey---really! I'm not sure what we should learn/gather from that...but interesting to point out anyway.
That was quite an entry. And oddly enough, you sound a lot like me. In a lot of ways.
And in response to another comment, I've actually been looking at apartments on Comm Ave, and (as I've said before) I am just endlessly amazed at how expensive it really is to live here.
Boston is outrageous--- you know I heard somewhere that BU owns nearly 33% of the rental property in Boston---don't know if that's true... but regardless---the property management companies are certainly taking advantage of all the *rich* students whose parents are able to afford astronomical rent dues
