Personality: Splendid is, in many ways, defined by his job as a superhero. Whenever there's a victim to be rescued or a criminal to be caught, you can count on Splendid to rush onto the scene as soon as he's able.....complete with salutes and the superhero fanfare that he hums to himself. He's always quick to flash a cheerful smile or affectionately pat the head of those he scoops out of harm's way. In this manner he's dashing, charismatic, and likable. It's for these reasons that he's a fairly popular fellow, having his own comic book, his own figurines, and other assorted merchandise- as well as the fans to purchase them.
Splendid has an ironic deep desire to keep everyone safe, and he's determined to make this so regardless of the danger or risk to himself (and often others). Although that's hardly unexpected- I mean, he's a hero! His ultimate goal is to achieve peace and happiness for everyone. While he shows exasperation when he's continuously called upon for help and can feel that being a superhero is a real pain in the ass, he won't give it up for anything. He's really into being a superhero, in a sense, and even has his own mild-mannered alter-ego to complete the cliche. Splendid's fiercely proud of his powers, enough to brutally battle another superhero (his polar opposite, as it turns out) for the title of the strongest.
Unfortunately, all of that ultimately ends up being worth very little. You see, Splendid is so ignorant of the chaos he spreads and so unaware of his screwups that it puts him almost on the same level of idiocy as Lumpy, who cut off the wrong foot when he was trapped under a tree. You think I'm kidding? He's negligent to a fault, either never thinking things through or never considering the consequences of his actions. (Let's not get into the time he killed Cuddles with super CPR...) This isn't helped by the fact that he rarely manages to stick around and thus see firsthand the damage he causes. No, what Splendid tends to do is automatically assume that everyone is indeed safe and then rush off to something else, when 99.9% of the time he's actually managed to kill everyone unfortunate enough to cross his path in horrible ways. Splendid constantly forgets just how strong he is and, worse still, even when he succeeds in helping someone out? Someone else is fated to get a bear trap to the face at some point.
He has a rather dishonest and childish side to him, too; when finally confronted with a messy problem that's in all likelihood his fault, he opts to shift the blame and scram instead of owning up to his mistakes. Giggles has her head cut off because Splendid flew too close to a tree branch? Splendid scribbles a face on an acorn, sticks it on the gushing stump, and tricks Giggles' mother into believing that her daughter is still alive. Cub gets torn apart after being tossed inside Splendid's washing machine with the rest of the laundry? Splendid attempts to whistle nonchalantly and fly away. Once, after turning back time in order to save his bread from being burned, he deliberately cranked up his radio in order to ignore any cries of help that would take him away from his cooking.
These and other such instances point to Splendid being arrogant and even self-centered to a certain degree; not only does he always believe that his actions have benefited others until proven otherwise, but he places more value upon achieving his own goals than the welfare of innocents at times. Or at least, just enough to make choosing one over the other potentially agonizing. (For example, he once inadvertently killed Handy by spending too much time dithering over whether to rescue him instead of chasing down The Mole, who had gotten evidence of Splendid changing out of his civilian persona. Splendid would also go on to accidentally kill several other characters in his pursuit of The Mole.)
So yeah, Splendid can be a thoughtless, selfish dick for all his heroics.
But to his credit, Splendid handles the gruesome death and horrible injury that he witnesses on a regular basis (whether caused by his own hand or not) much better in comparison to others; he doesn't succumb to hysteria like Flaky or Giggles, nor does he suffer from a disorder that causes him to lapse into murderous insanity like Flippy. Hell, sometimes he doesn't even notice the mutilated bodies or ruined property. In times of crisis, Splendid can be every inch the cool, calm, collected hero that refuses to let fear or panic shake him. And despite his terrible track record, Splendid does have a sense of justice and will thus never let Shifty and Lifty villains get away with any wrongdoing. Furthermore, no one can doubt his bravery or determination in those types of situations, and in most scenarios he's perfectly friendly, respectful and willing to help.
In the end, Splendid's a well-meaning idiot that's full of himself and always does more wrong than right.
Abilities: SUPERHERO: Levitation and flight, turning back time, super strength and speed, super breath (large lung capacity? it makes him able to survive in space and underwater for long periods of time), heat vision and ice breath, shock wave-inducing voice and super hearing. He's also, while not invincible, pretty tough- he got hit by a bus at full speed and was fine.
NORMAL: He can bake and cross-stitch.
