I'm thinking now that Sudoku is the great democratizing puzzle while the Crossword, printed above Sudoku in the Wildcat, stares down with an air of exclusivity.

I have yet to attempt a Sudoku.

I haven't done it, but the girl who works next to me loves it.

However, she doesn't speak much English, so she doesn't really do the crossword puzzle.

picnics are nicer in winter.
everything is winter-wonderland-y.
plus, you can take a thermos of hot chocolate.

Sudoku is the new kid who looks pretty plain and boring on the outside. But hidden on the inside is a deep cavern of first frustration, then intrigue, and finaly zen.

The New York Times crossword puzzle is a distant Englishman. The two crossword puzzles in the daily star are the embodiment of your wise but quirky grandfather. The wildcat crossword is your brother who was always a little bit ahead of the curve, but still has a mundane job.

The Englishman, the grandfather, and the brother feel no threat from the Asian; nor is the Asian concerned about them. His focus is locked. He is speaking in numbers. He is slowly smiling with his eyes as you fill in each row (su), column (do), and box (ku).
