Bureacratic nightmare

Thanks to everyone who commented on my previous post. I would respond to each of you individually but I am so exhausted at the moment, and emotionally drained and lacking of time, that I just have to comment to all of you here at large. Your support to me has meant a lot and I really appreciate it. Reading words of support has been extremely ( Read more... )

♥ Thank you, sincerely, for being so steadfast about this. You are doing what needs to be done. I'm currently witnessing how hard and painful it is to do just that as a close friend of mine is going through something woefully similar and troubling. Trying to provide as much support as I can to her, but ultimately it's her decision whether or not she reports her attack. :/

Ugh, I am so sorry to hear about your friend. No one should ever have to go through a situation like this.

Furthermore, I would be required to submit three witnesses.

WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK. HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU HAVE WITNESSES WHEN IT WAS SEXUAL ASSAULT WHICH DOESN'T GENERALLY HAPPEN IN FRONT OF A FUCKING AUDIENCE SDJKFHFFJDF I THOUGHT THIS SORT OF BULLSHIT ONLY HAPPENED IN SAUDI ARABIA.

The mediation session sounds good though, as does the restraining order.

Ugh. I hate that this system basically ensures that NO sexual assault will EVER get reported because all the odds are against the victim.

Yeah, pretty much.

Unfortunately, I have no witnesses.

Um. :\

Actually it occurs to me: you mentioned that a bunch of other women in the department had also been assaulted by this guy. If you took them aside, explained what happened to you and that it'll just keep happening to more girls if no one does anything, and then talked them into banding together with you, might that make more of an impression on the judiciary committee?

Everyone already knows because I've BEEN talking about it, and I've BEEN asking people for help on it, and none of them want to report.

I'm so glad you're still fighting through this. It's horrible, but things like this can't go unaccounted for.

Wow. I gotta say, that is some bullshit requiring three witnesses to the incident. It is appalling to me that the university is content to let assault go by on technicalities and ridiculous, burdensome conditions upon the victim.

The No Contact Order is good, though. At the very least, if he violates it you can, at that point, take judicial action against him.

Three witnesses? Three?! Fucking hell. This could easily turn upside for not only you, but it's probably screwed over other victims in the past because people can easily lie for an abuser (or blame it on you because, you know, you're a woman and he was there and "no" means "yes", etc).

I really hope you're able to find justice underneath the red tape. Continuing being the incredibly strong woman you are!
