An author has left one of the fandoms I am involved in. She had written some of the most profound and stunningly beautiful pieces that exist in this particular fandom, and her departure leaves a huge hole (IMO

I am with you Steph they kindly put them out into cyber space and were aware people kept them they have no hope of trying to shut the door now. After all I cannot recall dam emails when they end up with the wrong folk lol
I've definitely shared these in the past, I mean, that's what we do when we get awesome stories. One in particular was probably what you'd call a fandom legend. I don't think people will forget it fast, or let it die so easily.
I can understand how the author feels. Way back in the day I used to write Vig/Bean and it was the Vig/Bean Rugbytackle community that brought me to Live Journal.
While I was posting my stories I denied all requests that my stories be archived. When I moved away from the fandom I deleted all my stories from the various places that I had posted them including my own Journal. I had moved on and I no longer wanted to be associated with the Vig/Bean fandom.
To expect people to delete their copies of your stories that they have saved on their home computer is a bit unrealistic. Unfortunately once you post something onto the Internet you loose all control that you have over it.

I think her request is disrespectful to her loyal fans, the ones that encouraged her and made her work popular in the fandom. I wouldn't delete what I've saved, either.
I've had a few replies which have given me a little understanding of some reasons one might do this... but I'm hanging on to those stories for dear life, they are too perfect to forget!
