He was totally thinking of Rose. I will accept no other explanation! And yeah, that was probably my favourite part.
I confess I still haven't warmed to River. I still find her intensely aggravating. I like the idea of her but in practice she just makes me stabby (I suspect this has something to do with shipper!heart remaining eternally offended. Oh well). I agree that her Dalek moment was great but...no, she will never make my favourites list.
I'm so glad you've posted this. I've seen several other review style posts raving about the episode and I keep shaking my head wondering why, so I'm glad to see it's not just me.
Yes, there were a few bits I liked, a few lines that made me laugh and the little fish were cute etc, but there were also huge plot holes and contradictions (you can hug your past self without reapers now apparently?) and, as you said, it rehashed so many bits of previous plots that frankly I felt a little cheated.
Okay so it was all nicely wrapped in the Christmas Carol style story, but the pretty really wasn't enough to make me forgive the rest, especially that bloody awful shark.
