I am a writer, or so I keep telling everyone, except I haven’t done much writing for the last three years. There is a reason for that which I won’t go into now and it’s not just down to procrastination

Getting paid for writing? Sue, that's gonna be hard! At least for fiction, what about non-fiction/journalism/travel-writing? Can you jack something up for the trip and report on it.(I sound like my mother, she told me all that stuff when I was travelling, but it's all freelance anyway I think and you sub it and see if they want it. If they don't, there ain't no pay!)

Thank's for reminding me, Paul. Knew I could rely on you! I've already written a Patagonian piece but only subbed it to one mag which was subsequently rejected. Then suddenly everyone's writing about it. But I've not given up on it. Then there's always the Women's mags...am I hungry enough? So that's why I submitted an old re-worked story a few months ago, then sat back and waited for the rejection letter which arrived 6 weeks later. Ah, yes, good ol' Mills & Boon! Being an old romantic, I could always rattle off one of those in an afternoon, couldn't I? Besides, I hear they're getting a bit more racey nowadays. Better borrow one from the library to acquaint myself with the new style. I could always put my erotic writing course to better use? (And don't worry about sounding like your mother - that's what comes of being a father!)
