Crumb is one of my fave documentaries. It's such an awful family that makes Robert seem like the "normal" one...
I had such feeling for Charles. It's one of those things where, every time i see the film, in the back of my mind is the wholey irrational thought, "Maybe Charles will make it out this time."
R. Crumb is a genius, no doubt, but a soul like that almost had to move to France to survive, neh?
"I'm a Gnostic - someone who seeks knowledge of God," Crumb responded. "There's some force that rules our destiny: This is obvious. But what it is - this is a mystery we cannot possibly understand."
I think that quote from the article perfectly describes my husband's stance. He is somewhat conflicted on the whole God thing but does not believe that the man-made interpretation contained in the bible is accurate.
To my knowledge, he is not a Crumb fan but I bet after getting this book, he will be!!His birthday is coming up soon so this will make the perfect gift.

Yes, this was a good quote. After a few years where I've been sorta calling myself an agnostic, and not feeling that was true, i think I'm more of a Gnostic in the sense Crumb described.
