Chapter Eight

Lee was so absorbed in his thoughts that he didn’t realise someone was climbing up to the lookout until they were nearly at the top.

Glancing down, he saw to his relief that it was only Cally, but he gave himself a mental kick.  What if it had been a Cylon?  He couldn’t allow himself to get distracted like that.

He wasn’t too ( Read more... )

I love how Lee is giving Kara a taste of her own medicine by pushing HER away this time. That whole lookout conversation was awsome!

I won't get tired of saying how much I like this Lee.

I hope you had nice holiday.. don't think about Monday just yet. :)

Yes, got the whole of Sunday before I need to think about Monday! I had a lovely holiday, thanks, I really needed the break and feel much better for it.

Glad you liked this chapter, I had fun doing the whole role reversal thing with Kara trying to get Lee to talk and him lashing out at her. I was a bit worried he came across as being rather nasty to Kara in this chapter so glad you still like him :-)

I think she got a little of what she deserved. She does take Lee for granted, but obviously he has a breaking point and she pushed him past it.

I'm a huge L/K 'shipper, but sometimes he can be such a lap dog. It's nice to see him bite every now and then. :)

I completely agree - he needs to call her on her crap more often than he does on the show. So I make him do it in fiction!
I always think with Lee it takes a lot to make him lose it, but when he does he knows just what to say to push the knife in - that comment in Scar about Kara only being able to deal with the dead guys, for example.

Yeah! You're back! I'm glad you had a nice time.

I have to repeat what everyone else said. I loved the conversation between Lee and Kara. This part is my favorite--“You don’t want to help me, Kara, you just want to help yourself. You want good old reliable Lee back, so you can push all the responsibility onto him. You don’t want me to have any problems of my own, so I can put all my energy into worrying about yours.” It's so true. I'm glad Lee is giving a little back to Kara. He needs to get it out if he's going to let her help him, and she needs to hear it if she's going to be able to help him.

I also really liked the exchange between Lee and Cally. I like how you've portrayed them as almost kindred spirits. I hope Cally can find her baby.

I can't wait for the action to begin! Where did Lee go? What's he going to do? I'm anxiously awaiting the next part.

I love your Lee! Great job!!!

Glad you liked the bit with Lee and Cally. They're supporting each other as best they can. I could see the two of them forming a bond for some reason.

I'm amused by the reaction to the Lee & Kara scene, because I thought people might think Lee was being harsh when Kara's just trying to help, but instead everyone's cheering him on!...obviously a lot of people think Kara's treated Lee badly one time too many and deserves a taste of her own medicine :-)

The action is about to start - somehow the second half of this story turned out to have a lot of action, which was annoying because I find writing action scenes hard work and difficult! Plus I know nothing about guns or the military, so don't look at the details too closely...

obviously you do.

Well, I do to an extent.

I think Kara does tend to take it for granted that Lee will be around to support her whenever she wants him, and doesn't always give him the same in return, and I'd like to see him call her on it, as he does in what I wrote. However, I don't think she deserves most of what he says to her in this chapter. He's being unfair and he knows it.

I expected people to react by saying how nasty Lee was being because I think he is, so I was surprised to see that most people who've reviewed have supported his point of view. I've only had one person saying they hated Lee for everything he said, which was more what I was expecting. So I was wondering why. Hope that clarifies what I meant.

I'm glad you've posted a new chapter. When I first discovered Promises I read it all at once, I just couldn't put it down. I did feel sorry for Kara in this chapter, but I have to say that you can see where Lee is coming from, their relationship always seems to be a bit uneven. Looking forward to the next update.

Well, I feel sorry for Kara in this chapter too. Although I think Lee does have a point about her not always being there for him, most of the things he says to her are incredibly mean and unfair. She's struck home with a few of her comments about his behaviour, and he doesn't want to talk about it, so he reacts by attacking her and deliberately saying the worst things he can think of to make her go away. However, he's not going to get rid of her quite that easily.

Glad you're enjoying the story - I usually post a chapter every other day so next one will be up on Monday.

Well the truth stings, Kara, doesn't it? Wow. The thing is, if Lee really just wanted to stone wall her he wouldn't have even engaged with her whatsoever! We got to see that in S3 and it was way worse than this! I am seriously curious what Kara's other tactics will be!

Ohhh...another ouch. And another good one. Lee lashing back with nothing but the vicious truth is awesome. And Kara owning it and realizing the kernal of truth behind the words is even better. I'm enthralled...
