Chapter Forty-Two
Three months later
The sound of a door closing roused Zak from sleep. He blinked and rolled over, coming fully awake as he realised the other half of the bed was empty. A thin line of light glowed under the bathroom door, and he could hear the shower running.
After a few moments he flicked on the bedside light and sat

I'm torn between being happy that I know how it all ends, and that they're all as happy as they're likely to get, and being devastated that it's all over. What am I going to do with my life now that I don't have to wait for an update anymore? What, I ask you??
“Very true.” Kara scowled at him. “Killjoy.”
“Pest,” Lee shot back, sticking his tongue out at her.
Aw. They're so cute when they're idiots...
Bill smiled at him. “It’s a year ago today that Zak found you again on Cloud Nine.”
Silence fell for a moment.
“I didn’t realise,” said Lee finally, his voice sounding rough.
Snif.
And what a year it was...
So, have I told you recently how much I enjoyed this fic? Thanks so much for the ride!!

Thanks! I think relief is my overwhelming feeling at the moment!

I know, you're going to finish editing Long Time Coming so I can read the rest! :D After all, you've left poor Lee in danger... :worries about him:
Thanks for reading and especially for commenting on every chapter.

Doing the best I can. Unfortunately, other obligations (of the RL kind) are catching up with both my beta and myself, so it's possible it'll take a while. :(

I know what you mean! Unfortunately, the baby still seems to be in no hurry to come out, despite all my encouragement...!
Glad you enjoyed the ending, I always like having a happy ending after all the angst. Thanks for reading and commenting on each chapter.

Thank you so much for this wonderful story. I loved Emma. I loved Zak. And I loved your version of Kara and Lee.
I hope you realise that you left the door open for sequels and your slightly nutty fangirls are gonna need some more. But for now I am happy and you go off and be a mommy I am sure you are off having that baby right now or at least that is what I have my fingers crossed that it is so
So Thanks Again
And *Hugs*

I'm glad I could do that! It's nice to write a feelgood chapter at the end.

No, don't say that! I've only just finished this one! LOL!
Maybe I'll think about it, but not just yet.

Well, not yet...but hopefully it will decide to come out before too long!

That's such great closing line. As much as I loved seeing the Pilots together, this is a story of the Adamas. It just feels so ... right.
Thank you so much for sticking with this long story. Never before had I even considered reading AU stories, but your "conon" ones convinced me to give this a try. I am glad I did.
Particularly because, as it turns out, my favorite characterization is that of Zak. This is not because he "inherited" part of Lee's accomplishment in canon; if anything I should have been resentful, seeing how I absolutely love Lee. I like Zak because, as an original character, not only does he fit in with the established world of BSG, he is interesting in his own right ( ... )

Glad you like it, I wanted to finish with an Adama family scene, because at heart this story (although pilotlove was an important part) was really about the three of them becoming a family again.
Interesting to hear that this was your first AU story. There are some very good BSG AU stories out there if you feel like reading any more. In particular I recommend any of the 'Possibilities' series by hackaddict.

Thanks so much for your lovely comments on Zak - writing him was the toughest part of this story in a lot of ways, trying to give him his own personality while at the same time keeping some Adama family traits in there. So I really appreciate your words.

You are now free to have your baby. :)
Great luck on an easy delivery and a healthy baby.

No need to thank me, I really appreciated your help. When you've been staring at a chapter too long you really need that second opinion about whether a scene works or makes sense.
Great luck on an easy delivery and a healthy baby.
Thanks for the good wishes, now I'm just trying to persuade it to come out...
