I do not believe that sheer suffering teaches.  If suffering alone taught, all the world would be wise

since everyone suffers.  To suffering must be added mourning, understanding, patience, love,

openness, and willingness to remain vulnerable.

Struggling upright, grimacing at the feel of the taut sunburned skin as she moved, Despina tried out a chapped smile.

"I'm so happy to see him, I'd probably do something dumb like hug him if I could stand," she thought.

Be careful what you wish for, admonished her conscious.

Cu spoke, indicating another Indian standing beside him, "This is Thomas Tracker."

"I'm very thankful you're good at your job."
