Smith.
Mr. Robinson is not the brakeman's nearest neighbor, because one of the other passengers lives in Chicago, and the brakeman lives exactly halfway between them.
Mr. Jones is not the brakeman's nearest neighbor, because it is impossible to earn exactly one-third of $20,000 per year.
Mr. Jones must then be the fellow that lives in Chicago, because the last passenger must be the brakeman's nearest neighbor.
The brakeman's name is Jones, because Mr. Jones lives in Chicago.
Smith beats the fireman at billiards, so he can't be the fireman.
Jones is the brakeman.
Therefore, Smith, the only un-employed man so far, is the engineer.

And, Google News. There is no such thing as an objective news source; the closest you can get to objective is an even representation of all the facts by all the sources.
