That job sounds fantastic and I'm really glad you found it.
Also, wonderful books, specifically American Gods and Hard Boiled Wonderland (etc). Gaiman and Murakami are some of my favorites right now. How did you enjoy them?
I loved them both, however I made the ignorant decision of starting Gaiman right after finishing Midnight's Children, and Rushdie's style couldn't contrast more with American Gods... so I initially found myself disappointed with the stark style. Especially because immediately before starting American Gods I read one of Gaiman's scripts for Sandman, and it was exactly the same as the style he used in American Gods. I paged through Neverwhere and the style seemed somehow better. But I really loved the plot of the book. Murakami was amazing too, I'm going to read a Wild Sheeps Chase next, and Neverwhere as well.
I had a similar experience with Gaiman, it took me awhile to get into his style, and I still wouldn't consider him one of my favorite writers. I'd agree with what you said about Neverwhere, it's been a few years since I've read either of those, but I do remember enjoying the voice of it better.
I'd highly recommend reading Murakami's Kafka on the Shore, really brilliant and beautiful. I haven't read Wild Sheeps Chase, let me know how it is.
I'm free pretty much constantly, it's just transportation that's the issue. Weekdays I can get up to Madison pretty easily, weekends gets more complicated, but is definitely doable. What days work best for you?
I'm in class until noon, and work Tuesdays and Wednesdays.. Any other day after noon I'm free.. Yes, I would love to get together and to read your book!! I can't wait to catch up with you :)
I'm glad you're really getting somewhere now. before you were working in a cafeteria and now you're working at a radio station, interning with a famous philosopher, and are about to travel abroad. i'm really proud of the steps you've taken recently. you've always been amazing ^_^
I loved American Gods. I haven't been able to get my hands on the Sandman comics yet, but they're on my "eventually" list. I also enjoyed Ender's Game.
I'll have to add the rest of the books on your list to mine. One book that I would recommend to you would be World War Z. It's not as thoughtful as others, but it's a very interesting book written in a piecemeal style that I loved.
