First Wave--[Voice]

[So. Murasa's been watching and waiting and listening all this time--ever since she heard noise coming from this odd little book-that-was-not. Perhaps more like a cleverly disguised radio. A similarly odd radio that seemed to have no frequencies or encryptions whatsoever--or even use electricity, unless there was some battery compartment she had ( Read more... )

kogasa always forgotten, there's an almost-zombie on your lawn, and she's been there for three days, wrong side of the pond

I didn't know there was an ocean anywhere around here.

It's a very nice pond.

And utterly devoid of life.

Ah, the lake? It's been claimed by that annoying ice fairy.

You're one of the people from the palanquin ship, then?

No, the pond--ocean, same thing. It's not a lake, unless lakes are made of saltwater now. Which...could happen, I guess. I haven't seen any fairies or people or jellyfish in three days.

That's me, yes! Hi.

[Jack hears all this about ships and lack of pants and is immediately interested.] Captain, eh? Captain of a ship what flies?

...Nah, there aren't many other ships here, Captain.

[Of course Jack would be pinged by pants.]

The Palanquin Ship! It's a long story.

[Then Murasa's smile flattens into a disapproving line.]

Well, bollocks. That makes things a bit difficult.

I can't disagree. My own boat's still got some finishing needed, and she's miles from the bit of ocean we've got here. Highly inconvenient, that.

Palanquin---I've not heard of her.

What ocean is this, anyway? It's kind of dead.

She's kind of new! And has been entombed underground for the last thousand years or so. So that doesn't surprise me.

[A high, clear voice answers, slightly hesitant]

You may have been brought here without them.

My pants or my crew?

I meant, your ship and your crew.

[It's a small blessing that blushes can't be transmitted via voice.]

[Laughter, on the other hand, can be. And is! At least for a little while.]

That's a shame. Guess I'll have to wait for them to catch up.

[...a rather far-fetched hope, but Murasa's not mentioning that.]

[A woman captain on a flying ship?

...Will wonders never cease]

You shan't find your crew here, Captain. At least not in their entirety.

What, did Nue find her way into a jar?

I know nothing of the affairs of your crew, Captain. [Even ones as odd as that] Only that this land is not so "kind" as to expect those that you know to be about.

[Her voice briefly turns into something like a sarcastic drawl.]

So it's basically like hell all over again. Fantastic.

...what land, though? I don't see any and this book didn't come with a roadmap. [...though she only vaguely knows what that is. Second-hand knowledge and all that--to put it lightly.]
